NASA Publishes Stunning Photos Taken by Artemis II Astronauts Using iPhone 17 Pro Max

The photos feature unique moments from inside the Orion spacecraft, showing astronauts gazing at Earth through the spacecraft’s windows as they journey toward the Moon. These images highlight the human side of space exploration.

Among the most notable shots are photos of mission commander Reid Wiseman and mission specialist Christina Koch as they observe Earth from space. These images were taken using the phone’s front-facing camera.

Smartphone Use in Space

This mission marks the first time that each crew member has been equipped with an iPhone 17 Pro Max to capture personal photos and videos during a spaceflight.

Despite being onboard, the devices are limited to photography and video recording, as they do not support internet connectivity or communication functions within the spacecraft.

In addition to smartphones, astronauts are also using professional-grade cameras such as the Nikon D5 and Nikon Z9, along with GoPro cameras, to capture high-resolution images for scientific and technical purposes.

Artemis II is the first crewed lunar mission launched by NASA since 1972, aiming to return humans to deep space and pave the way for future exploration of the Moon.
